OK - I have mine loose because if I hit anything I tend to really whack it. I want the manifold to move and not break. I want the give in the manifold to absorb the energy of the impact rather than bending it.

I have rolled a fully loaded set of 12's off of the back of a 4X4 and the manifold moved but did not break. If it was fixed in place I suspect that the manifold would not have survived.
