True, but I'm not sure if they would normally then use Nitrox.

3 years ago when I first went to Phuket I was actually told it was to give the diver the benefit of the extra bottom time. On that boat it was made clear that if you were paying the extra $6/tank for the fill, they thought it reasonable if you got a decent chance to use it. It's just a difference of approach I suppose. It's nothing that you can't check out before hand though, if you're aware that the differences are there. This was my third time there, but the first time that I encountered this situation. I suppose it's a bit more of a surprise if you think you know what to expect....but you don't!
