I was sharpening a knife getting it ready to cut the roast chicken up. Lovely knife it is, but wouldn't fit inside the sharpener. So I was slicing over the top of the sharpener and thinking to myself "I must be careful cos if I slip I'll chop my thumb off". Guess what I did???

Yep about 2 seconds later crunch it went down on my thumb, coming to rest on the bone.
Popped my head round the door to HWMBO at the time and said "I think I need to go to hospital". Couldn't move the thumb. Had all but severed the tendon that gives the thumb movement. Too complicated for the local hospital so had to be taken 45 miles to Bangor hospital where the next day they had to reattach my tendon. Luckily it was hanging on by a thread, so they didn't have to delve down into my wrist to find the elastic tendon!!
