| I have heard tell that if you were so inclined that if you drill a long wide hole into the tree pointing down and pour in bleach and then plug the hole with mud / dirt then the tree would go white and die. It is illegal of course.
Copper nails are, I think, an urban myth. Unless they are attached to a chain saw.
Anyway - you can cut the tree on your side of the boundary with impunity and it won't be worth his time / money suing you anyway.
