Planning - high hedges

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part 8 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 which gives local authorities powers to deal with complaints about high hedges came into force on 1 June 2005.
What the service is for
A means of resolving disputes over high hedges where loss of light to gardens or windows is alleged.

Provided you have tried and exhausted all other avenues for resolving your hedge dispute, you can bring your complaint about a neighbours evergreen hedge to the district council.

We will then decide whether the hedge is adversely affecting your reasonable enjoyment of your property and if so, we can issue a formal notice setting out what must be done to remedy the problem. We cannot, though require the hedge to be removed (only reduced in height) and therefore cannot guarantee access to uninterrupted light.

The cost of an investigation of a high hedge complaint is £320 (50% discount if in receipt of state pension).
