The CDG ; THE LAST 30 YEARS

Rupert Skorupka will be presenting an illustrated talk on the development of the Cave Diving Group over the last 30 years on saturday the 10th of May, 7-30pm at Clitheroe Conservative Club. Admission is free, voluntary contributions will go to the CDG Northern Section compressor fund.

For those that do not know him, Rupert began cave diving with the CDG in the late seventies. His progress in underwater cave exploration went hand in hand with the changing attitudes of the Group, from pushing small sumps at the bottom of desperate potholes, to multiple stage explorations in the massive complex of Keld Head. Ruperts diving at home was undertaken with such legendary figures as Geoff Yeadon, and when he ventured abroad it was with on the initial exploratory trips to France with Rick Stanton and Jason Mallinson. In the present decade, Rupert has embraced the use of rebreathers to aid in his solo explorations of some the remote sumps of Spain, and is presently developing new methods of using explosives underwater to enlarge a constricted sump. Virtually all of this expertise has been self taught and is completely free of the stamp of training agencies and conformity of DIR type diving.

The talk will cover all of these exploits, and more, and Rupert will be happy to give advice or answer any questions afterwards. So, if you want to hear from someone whom knows what they are talking about, please feel welcome to come along. There will be a licensed bar on the premises.
