| What was that fish in Scapa Flow? Hello,
I was diving on the S-54 in Scapa Flow last week. In 10 meters of water I saw a little, fat, characterful fish.
It was about a foot long, fat (2-3 inches), had a big mouth and big eyes. It was completely undeterred by my presence, and initially I thought it must be dead. I placed it in my net bag for further inspection.
During my dive I had come across some big clams, which I also placed in my net bag. However I soon noticed some 'activity' in my net bag.
The fish I thought was dead, was attached to the clam with what I would described as a, 'second mouth' on its chest. I teased the clam off this second mouth and then allowed the fish to swim or waddle off to its new found life and freedom.
Can anyone tell me what this fish with a 'second mouth' was in Scapa Flow. A photo or a link to a photo would also be very helpful to me to confirm identification.
Many thanks. |
