Auto air I have kept the Auto Air on my Inspo, I always had one when on OC and found them to be reliable, unless abused, although they will take some abuse. I have never had a problem with one other than the odd tiny leak that I easily fixed (in the water as well as pre-dive). I have used the one on my Inspo “in anger” so to speak, and brought an out of air OC diver up from 18 meters, with no difficulty. I was one of a threesome and it was very controlled, but it worked. I am very careful with prepping and testing the unit before a dive. If I am diving less than approx 20 meters either solo or with a buddy I don’t normally carry bailout cylinders and rely on the dil/Auto air combination. If diving with a buddy to 35 ish meters, again I don’t normally carry bailout cylinders. If diving solo to 35 meters I will normally carry a 7 litre, beyond that either solo or with a buddy I would consider carrying two cylinders I did bail out once at about 30 meters when I felt something was wrong (it was basically, down the shot, not happy, signal buddy, quick check, still not happy, bail and abort, back up shot) when testing unit I found that the problem was miniscule and I could have stayed on loop, but that was lack of experience. I am considering rigging a 1 litre O2 cylinder to the counter lung on a manual inject button. And just to get the DIR mob and many others screaming “Suicide bottle” and “you’re mad” etc I also use an emergency bottle on the wing, same as I always did OC for many years. But hey, I’m still hear after all those years so i must be getting something right. |
