How do octopuses reproduce?

The male has a modified arm called a hectocotylus that he stretches out to the female and inserts into her mantle cavity. The arm transfers spermatophores from a storage sac into her mantle cavity near the oviduct where the eggs are fertilized. Shortly after the eggs hatch, the female dies.
