Custom Divers

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone here had or is currently using a custom divers wing and harness??
Reason why I'm asking is that I'l looking at several brands and custom divers seem to offer a better product!! Now I'm not saying that OMS, Halcyon or Dive Rite aren't good......but Custom Divers just "looks" a little better.

Can you please post your thoughts and resons for this view

Talking CD TDB +backplate +sport harness

Hi
First of the only real way is to find somebody who is using the kit you are thinking of buying and blag a dive on theirs .It might cost you a couple of bear tokens but could save you alot of money in the long run !

Right having said all that ,I tried an oms with a one piece harness ,a diverite transpac & when I originally purchased my tdb it came with the normal harness .IMO they were all crap ! the reason for this it that without exception they all caused bruising on my shoulders .This could be due to not using a thinsulate ,I only dive with a fleece under my dry suit .
I cannot fault the wings especially the oms (twin bladder bungied ).I was fortunate to find a cd sports harness cheap on here .This has much wider shoulder straps & is more in a bcd style with a waist band that the shoulder straps attach to ,comes with integrated weight pouchs as well which I like alot . I find no problems & it is very easy to get in & out of with twin 12's + stages.
Hope this gives you some thought's over possible problems :- I could be uniquely awkward in having these problems ,there are some awkward devils around
Good luck in your choice

Nice kit - but as always with dive kit - each to their own. Lots of pro's and con's depending on your stand point Doesn't help much I know, but there you go

I have a CD TDB Single bladder wing with sports harness and I really like it, it's bullet proof.
It is bungied which some do not like but to be honest I just can't fault it.

Smile CD Wing

CD Wing (Cordless Twin Bladder one) with Portland Oceaneering Backplate and Portland Oceaneering (single web) Harness

Great Wing, great backplate (handle works), harness could do with some extra D-rings / existing D-rings in a better position

Hi

I dived a CD rig for a few years and I liked it. I liked the fact it never failed and I liked the flexabuility of the back plate and wing. I dived it with single 12s and a pony and I dived it with twin 15s and three 10ltr stages and it just worked. Best bit is you could rig anything with simple cam bands and nothing else. Worst bit was the location of the main dump which made you wiggle about a bit on the surface to get the last of the gas out to sink.

The CD harnes was ideal for me as I like to clamp everything to me tight. However Colin is right it can bruse you just above the armpit if you over tighten it.

Its not the ideal wing but it is very versitile. If I was going for the ideal wing it would have to be designated to the rig I was diving be that singles or twin 12s twin 15s etc. Twin rigs for me must be able to cope with steel stages.

So if versitile is what you need and you can put up with the poorly located dump Id recomend it. If you want ideal purley for twin 12s and two 7ltr stages there are better rigs and they are not the OMS bungeed ones.

I also like the OMS kit but the design of the back plate and wing does not alow simple riging of twin independents or single tank rigs so I prefer the CD design.

ATB

I currently use a CD TDB twin bladder and I can't fault it. Comfortable, adjustable and reliable.

Not DIR compliant though *if* this is a route you might be considering at some point in the future. I wasn't when I bought it - now I am. Expensive to buy in first place and even more expensive if you're looking at changing it for something else down the line...
