Question A few (stupid) harness rigging questions

Hiya,

Last night I putting together my new wing + backplate and I had a couple of questions regarding the configuration of the harness.

1) The instructions I followed showed the belt buckle on the righthand waist strap, but I'm sure I've seen some photos on sites showing it on the left - if its on the left that would stop my snips falling off the waist strap when I undo it. Is it a case of I've been really stupid and just not followed the instructions properly?.

2) Bungee loop for LP inflator: Is the loop attached to the left chest D ring or left to just slide up the shoulder strap?

On another thread someone was saying that on a wing you don't really need to use the wing inflator to dump air, instead use the rear dump.
On my Agri-Brokk there's only a dump on the front lower left! so even if I was perfectly horizontal (not likely yet) the wing inflator will be higher, therefore the air will migrate there or am I missing something?. Anyway I'm off to the pool tonight to play with the setup and see how much more comfortable its

Cheers,

Jeff

1) The buckle goes on your right, reason is if it went on the left the crotch strap loop "might" go to the left, get caught under the release and if pulled to the right it would relesase the buckle. With the buckle on your right its most unlikely to happen. Use a tri-glide or similar to hold the snips in place.
2) Dunno
3) I always use my corrugated hose to dump air from the wing, it also has the advantage (for me at least) of praising my dry suit auto dump into the correct place for er auto dumping.

Matt

ps, no such thing on this site, maybe others, but not here, as a stupid question.

yes, there is a convention (& not just DIR) for putting the buckle on the left

http://www.baue.org/images/galleries...iststrapheight

put it where (1) you're comfortable and (2) things won't fall off your waist strap

The buckle is attached to the left side of the webbing, but does up on the right-hand side.It was also used to hold the light cannister in place, but a lot of people now use a supplimentary plastic buckle to hold the cannister if you need to doff the kit in water.

Like Paul said, on my harness the buckle is attached to the left hand waist strap but it is long enough to pass through the crotch strap and do up on the right - I think this might be the reason why a lot of people think the buckle is on the right.

The bungy loop is sandwiched between the retainer and tne D ring so it doesn't move. You can thread it through if you pull out some slack between the D ring and tainer if you've already threaded the harness.

The rear dump only really works when you are horrizontal. I have an Agir wing too and use the rear dump all the time now - but this took a lot of getting used to. Try reaching for it when you are swimming along and experiment - but be able to use both.

2) either - it depends whose kit you're looking at, as to how they thread the bungee - I think on the Halcyon rigs i've seen, it's on the d ring. Presumably this is agir brok - so ask niknaks, as he sells them

3) no, you're right

Thanks alot Vid...

Those pictures certainly cleared the waist belt question...I had the buckle on my right side, but the buckle the wrong way round! so the crotch strap could have slide over it and then opened it!!

One of the pictures in the gallery should the bungee loop fixed in position by the left chest slider...makes sense.

Cheers Matt good point about getting the auto dump in the right position...might be usefull when ascending Ta for the explanantion as to why the buckle is that way round.
