Nipples... again!

Righteo, here we go again...

I've read all the old posts about nipples (and the jokes too) but i'm still not entirely sure what i've got!

I just got myself a new single wing, a DiveRite Venture Wing, and it occurred to me that because of the way I have my regs setup for twins and singles it would be easier to have drysuit and inflator hose interchangeable for when I switch between singles and twins... fewer hoses to move around.

The thing is, I don't really know what type of inflator i've got!

At the minute I have one of the big chunky apeks ones on my drysuit (cern?), which looks like:

On the wing inflator, the nipple is one of the ones with a bar across the top, like this:

However, the only one I can find in any shops (found them in Portland Oceaneering and Divers Warehouse - if there's anywhere else too then tell me and i'll go look) that is different to my drysuit one is this one:

So, is this last one actually really the same as mine (the one with the bar on), and are they interchangeable, or are they subtley different (like the Buddy ones aren't quite the same are they?).

And can I get nice big chunky hoses for these smaller nipples like my current big chunky Apeks hose (ie with the big collar to get drysuit hose on and off easily), or should I keep it small to make sure it'll fit on the wing inflator?

Any clues would be mucho appreciated! :O)

David

The last two are usually the same.

In fact, number 3 is preferable to number 2 as I know someone who's little bar broke off, this meant that during his (increasingly rapid) descent, he could not inflate his wing.

I think AP are the only folks that supply their type of fitting whereas loads of people make the other type, so unless it's in an AP bag you should be safe... usually

FWIW I think Apeks will do a large-collared hose in any of the fittings (Apeks.co.uk under suit valves/inflation hoses)

Well the buddy one looks very similar, but is slightly shorter, so it clips on and engages, but it is not quite long enough to push in the shraeder valve in the hose.

As long as you're looking for wing inflator, you should be ok.

Re the hose, you should be able to get a wide collar, but if you have a look throu the archives for a thread about alternative suunto straps ... hang on, I know what I'm on about .... found it... , things like this can be fitted to any hose.

The first one is an Apeks nipple, the second two are both the same fitting and take the same hoses, the second two are commonly called Seatec nipples. I have done the same as you changed everything to the Seatec nipples.

had this problem using a buddy hose on a Beuchat Master Lift. Bought a Beaver hose from my LDS and it worked fine.

Sounds like it is the right one then - woohoo!

Just see where to get it from now... i'll try Stoney at the weekend (ooooh, expensive!), or probably the Dive Show after that - haven't got much diving planned between now and then anyway. And then i'll be able to pick a nice hose too

And one general question... is it only me who can never find things on the SAP website? Can't find any nipples of any kind, and other stuff I look for takes me hours to find too - maybe i'm just a bit dim :O(

Cheers all

David
