Single tank on a backplate with cambands...

I've recently got myself a single tank wing (Dive Rite Venture Wing) to use with my backplate, and got rid of my BC. I'm struggling a bit though...

I'm using two cam bands that go through the backplate, through the wing slots, and then around the tank. Now that seems fine, but I find that, however tight I manage to get it, it ends up going "wonky" by the time I get in the water so I end up swimming around lop-sided! Basically the wing slips too easily to either side of the backplate, and the tank can make similar movements.

Ideally i'd like a nice "bodge" solution without needing any new bits - and if I do need some extra bits ideally they'll be VERY light and very cheap. Want to take this to Egypt on an ally backplate too, so am keen to avoid the need for an STA (which I thought the point of having the cam band slots in the wing and backplate were meant to do anyway).

Is it just me having problems, or is it a very specific problem with my setup that makes it not work? This is on a Woz plate... I had it in the pool on an OMS aluminium backplate and didn't notice the problem with the tank moving (although the wing still didn't easily sit central) but thats probably just because if it not being in the pool long.

One thought did occur to get some really small 8mm bolts just to hold the wing central on the backplate, but not sure how well the tank would sit against those...

Ta in advance of any bright ideas!

Cheers

David

If I were you I'd invest in an Agir Brokk STA - aluminium, very light, solves your problem.

I'd second that, though almost any Single Tank Adaptor is good for the job. The AGIR one is nice, as is the halcyon. Have only seen the big ones with stainless steel buckles. I think AGIR do a smaller travel one in 2 bits, but don't know anyone that's used it.

Have got a Halcyon STA in the shop if you want.

Is that like this one:

Or do Halcyon do a smaller travel version too like the Agir one?

The little Agir ones look much better for the lightweight things I need:

And even at DIR Direct they're only £20... so they probably only £12 in most other places!

I'll have a look round some other shops tomorrow.

One question though - how much do these things make your tank stick out from the backplate? And is there any kind of tank wobble, or are they fine as long as they're done up tight?

Cheers

David

How heavy, and how much? The only one I can see on your website looks quite heavy...

David

*Background info: last year I went to Egypt and was 13kg over my baggage allowance... I want to bring that down a bit this year!

David,
Even if you get the 2 part stainless ones they dont weigh that much, and they are small enough to put in your pockets, and thus dont count towards your weight allowance, Kent Tooling, Portland Oceaneering and Underwater explorers all do them.

Thumbs up

I've got the Kent tooling two part STA and can recommend it, doesn't weigh too much and no tank wobble.

Thumbs up Nice......

I've got a set of the Agir two part aluminium STA's and they work great (as long a you do the bolts up nice and tight, I use nyloc nuts instead of wingnuts as I only dive a single at the moment).
