just saw a thread on DN regarding crutch straps on wing set ups. Whats the view of this forum--good or bad, help or hinderence?

Good. In fact, necessary.
Just make sure there's enough slack in them ;)
The slot on my backplate is only 1in, but I put a 2in bit of webbing through it, to spread the pressure a bit, and also because that's the easiest size to get retainer thingies for.
