    Unhappy Imported post

    <font color='#348781'>Hi All,

    Now I've finally got a bit of cash the purchase of a Halcyon Explorer wing is looking more and more likely &nbsp;

I've seen in other posts mention 'wing wrap' what is this? Is it a problem?

The reason i ask is because i'm not sure what size wing to go for 40lb or 55lb, i'm likely to be using twin 10's in the UK (maybe moving on to twin 12's eventually) however i do a fair bit of diving abroad using singles and gather that 'wing wrap' may be a problem.

    Basicly, what is 'wing wrap'?

    and

    What size wing?

    Cheers
    Ian

In short, if the bladder is too big... it floats up and wraps around the tank..... so you then find it difficult to dump.

a 55 is deffo too big for a single tank, Im not sure about Halcyons 40....

<font color='#8D38C9'>it's when you look like a manta underwater

the wing ends U shaped around your cylinder

only a real issue if you got loads of air in it then it could be a pain to dump else it just looks kinda funny

    for 10s/12s prob a 55

Some wings, I know the Buddy Tekwing is one, include a strap to try and stop wing wrap.

Straps or Bungee will help prevent the wing wrapping around the cylinder - This isn't very DIR though if you're that way inclined.

I'm told that Custom Divers have these tags on these wings which you use if you are using a single cylinder which help to reduce tank wrap.

I have an OMS wing on order - hope that I don't also have to order their travel/sport wing - huuuh hmmmmmm - more expense on the horizon

As has been mentioned it can be a problem, basically wings that are too big tend to wrap. Wings designed for double tanks don't make good wings for singles because they are too wide.

Go for a 40lb Wing. I use a 40lb wing with twin twelves and have used it with 2 stages with no problems. As have WL, Mark, Tibbs, Bob and many others.

Some have used it with twin 15's.

the 55lb is more designed for twin 18's/104's.

For a single tank you will be better off with a dedicated single wing rather than trying to compromise with a wing designed for doubles.

    <font color='#0000FF'>Ian,

I have to agree with RobK.
I too wanted the 55 Exp having looked at the DirDirect site, which is apparently wrong.

I posed this question too and was advised to go with the 40 Exp, which I now love and dont know why I wasn't born with one

    HTH, Good luck
