Question Halcyon inflator

Hi all

I've been using an eclipse for the last 3 years and now have a problem with it. The inflator seems to get stuck now and again. I have to knock it or pull the button out to stop air trickling in.
I contacted Portland and they sent me out a new set of Orings for the unit which I replaced, no joy though, it still leaks air.
I'm wondering if it's a problem with the springs under the inflator button? I'm still waiting to find out if I can get a spring as a replacement part.

I've spoken with Portland again about sendining it there but apparently at a service all they will do is replace the orings as I have done.

Apart from changing the complete thing has any one any thoughts
Many thanks

I had the same issue... As do many many others with the Holycon inflator...

I solved it temporarily by doing exactly as you have done but using plenty of silicon grease.

I solved it permanently by getting rid of it and getting a Frog wing instead.

If this is the metal one ebay it and buy a diverite one. The metal ones are apparantly "designed for self maintainance". In other words, you need to keep stripping them and cleaning them or they sometimes fail spectacularly. I saw 2 examples of this with people's kit last week and told them the same thing - bin it and buy a cheap plastic one.

I had a similar problem with my Custom Divers inflator trickling air in. What we had to do was take the button inflate/deflate apart, then soak it in vinegar and clean all the rubbish off before putting it back together which solved the problem.

Was a right pain on deco having to dump the wing every so often.

I'm not sure what the halycon ones like but could be worth a try.

Andy

Judging by the age of the wing, I'm assuming that it's a stainless steel inflator, right? If so - and the o-ring replacement/service hasn't done the trick - then I'd be inclined to follow Garf's advice - ie. change the inflator out for a new one. Halcyon now offer an OEM power inflator that's a lot more maintenance-free than the stainless inflator - I changed my stainless inflator out for one of these and have had no problems at all...

Hi,

you can find the manual for the precision inflator here . Getting it working properly again is probably not a big job.

Cheers,

Mark.

Stick it in the bin, selling it on ebay knowing it has a problem is pretty shabby.

This could seriously damage the poor sap that buys it.

Throw it in the bin and buy a red OMS bungy wing.

Replace the inflator.

My SS inflator kept sticking. I took it to bits. Lubed it all, then put it back together again. About 20 (dive) hours later it blew up on me, and the SS block shot out of the end of the wing, causing the inflator to inflate constantly while snaking around and shedding quite a bit of gas from the wing.

I think the threads in the plastic simply aren't up to the job.
