| I have just done my WTX 80 wing. I have had 5 eyelets down each side of the back board. I have at the moment elastic bungee on it but my mate is using tubing on his so i'm waiting to see how that performs. Had the eyelet done by a firm that makes tarpaulin and they only charged me £3.

| I like bungeed ....... bungied .......... wings with bungee ............... bungie .......... bungy ......... wings with elastic string on them. I have def seen 2 film clips of a person with an un-elastic stringed wing going through a cave opening and the wing was flattened over the cylinders (which is round?) perfectly place for getting easily nipped between a rock and a hard place.

| Is it true that the DIR people dont like them as a bloke called JJ told them they are crap. And he doesnt like them as they wouldent give him a sponsor ship deal, so he went with some flappy wind that floats up in the air rarther than tucked away nice and neat? I like my bungied wing G.

1) if a wing gets punctured then it's possible to keep some buoyancy whereas the bungees would cause the buoyancy gas to be expelled, 2) typically bungees are used to contain the excess material in a wing that may be too big for the diving being done 3) depending on the type of bungee used and the tautness of said bungee, it may be hard to orally inflate the wing, if required. | I've recently fixed a hole in Nic's wing (unbungeed at the time) which was as a result of swimming through wrecks when we were in Truk a few months back. A number of times our wings would get knocked between the cylinders and bits of rusty metal around doors and hatchways etc.. Since returning to the UK I have bungeed both our wings. As our weighting is good there is never much air in the wing and consequently it stays nicely tucked up out of the way. Anyone getting hooked up on wreckage etc with a bungeed wing - an oft voiced concern - would hook something else up instead in my opinion as the wing should be completely out of the way for the underwater portion of the dive. Unless you have seen a bungeed wing deflated before you may not be aware of how compact they really are. The pictures in magazines, websites etc.. always show them fully inflated and I'm sure this is where a lot of detractors would 'think' they are an entrapment hazard because they are used to the physical shape of the wing not altering. The fact is they really are very compact when deflated and with correct weighting your body will be wider than the wing. We have tried oral inflation of our wings on the surface and whilst it is not as easy to get them to get them to absolute max inflation, it can be done It's hardly different to inflating a non-bungeed wing for at least the first half of full inflation and there is plenty of lift with just a few puffs of air in. Hope that helps Graham - a recent bungee convert . |
