I still use a Dive Rite ali plate. I prefer it to my SS Frog backplate when I am only wearing a 3mm wetsuit or less. It weighs less than 700 grams and is a bargain at £40.

I've got a Dive-Rite Ali backplate and the agir two-part STA and I reckon that they're less than a kilo together.

I bought the backplate from the "Dive Shop That Dare Not Speak Its Name" for 40 quid inc P&P.

I just dug them out the cupboard as I was worried I was going mad!

Nope they don't fit! Frog wing, halcyon ali backplate, washer, spring washer and there is no thread left to stick the wing nut on. I should send them back, cost quite a bit of money and completely useless! Bought them from dirdirect.com for a holiday.

The studs on the frog STA are about 1cm longer.

How long are the studs on your travel STA? I'll dig mine out in the morning and see if we can compare.

Are the bolts welded to the STA?

If so what is the thread of the bolt as we at Kent Tooling manufacture threaded inserts that screw on to the bolt but also goes through the holes in your back plate, they are similar to a dome nut this will enable you to use your STA,

If you need any more help give me a call, my advise is FREE

The stud on the Frog STA gives about 3cm of thread. The AGIR STA gives about 2.2cm.

Frog vs AGIR

AGIR STA

AGIR STA

No thread for wing nut using AGIR STA

Plenty of thread for wing nut using Frog STA

Thanks John, I'm not entirely sure I understand, but the pictures above should explain better what I've got. I'm not sure how the stainless steel stud is fixed to the aluminium plate. I'll try and take it apart in a bit. The thread is different to the Frogs thread though.

It looks like the STA has been taped and then the bolt screwed in.

John

Yes it does look like it. I haven't got the correct size allen key handy to try and take it out. Will grab one when I get time later. I guess then somehow I need to identify the thread and get a longer bolt.

Will drop agir an email I think, the part cost enough and is unusable at the moment.
