Wings - Am I getting myself at it?

I've been looking at a number of dedicated wings and wonder if I'm getting myself at it really?

Just found my log book and I haven't dived since 2003 (4 years not the 6 I had thought!)

I wasn't into trimix or twins back then so will I be into that game when I get back in the water? I doubt it some how as recreational diving was what I enjoyed so I am wondering if I am looking at overdoing things a bit with a dedicated wing when before I dived with a BCD and that was okay and met the extremes I went to!

I like the idea of the streamlined no rib crush approach a wing offers but wonder if I really would be better off with something like this as its all sorted with its intergared weight system etc?

Knighthawk

I'm not a deep or technical diver and mainly will be bobbing about round the south coast down to 40m max.

Thanks.

I've never gone with integrated weights... when your rib diving it makes the whole thing to heavy to hand up. Lugging it around on land also is a real pain.
Just looked at the price... £..wow.

For that much you could have a proper harness backplate... and a dedicated twinset wing and single wing.

Have a look at the Frog range Wings, Backplates and BCD's at divingniknaks

everyone seems to say good things about them, good quality and a great price.
CUSTOM DIVER TDB WINGS TWIN BLADDER SYSTEM on eBay, also, Buoyancy Compensators, SCUBA Snorkelling, Sporting Goods (end time 01-Apr-08 15:37:03 BST)
or something like this... TBD's are great...

At the end of the day, it's down to what you're happy with.

Everyone on here can give you advise, however that advise is based on what's right for them.

If the Knighthawk does what you want, then why not?

Have got our old kit? Does it still work? Is there a particular reason why you want to change?

Edit.... just saw your intro and saw you sold your kit. Anyhoo... did you like what you had and would you use it again?

I think I am in a minority having kept the same kit since 2001. (first set was cheap and nasty )

Yes I would use it if I still hade it - I had decent kit Mares Abyss and a nice BCD (Although I prefer the streamline non rib crush approach the wing style offers) I wouldn't want my old Buster Crab suit again though!

I like the idea of the Knighthawk (I know its a few quid) but it looks like it will do what I want - I like inergrated weights (You can always pass them up in a rib) but then from what I have read on here and other places full on 'proper' wings are very popular and I don't want to make a mistake.

Frog

For sure this looks good but I would need to use a weight belt - any suggestions that go well with this wing system? Also is it a one size fits all?

I'd have a look at a small single tank wing like the Frog Indigo and save yourself £100. If your diving progresses to a twinset later on, then you can just change the wing for a larger one and keep the backplate and harness.

Yes one size fits all. Just adjust the harness webbing to suit & you're done.
I have the Frog Indigo & use a standard weight belt. With the stainless steel backplate weighing around 2kg I find I don't need an uncomfortable amount of weight around my waist. You can also offset a bit by putting a few kg in pouches on the cam band or even directly onto it.

You can get QR weight systems to thread onto the waistbelt if you wish though.
