oms travel wing

Hi guys looking at buying the oms travel wing with stainless steel backplate. Am i correct in thinking that i will not need to purchase a single tank adaptor for this due to the pre cut slots? as this is my first time ill be also going for the deluxe harness as this has a break. possibly more sensible for a relatively new diver.

Regards

John

I have on OMS stainless BP & bungeed wing but find that if i use it without an STA (ie using slots for the cam bands only) the tank tends to swing on the backplate making it quite uncomfortable & sometimes unstable.

Also bear in mind that there is nothing to hold the wing to the BP untill the cam bands are cinched up meaning that you will have to line everything up each time you change tanks.

Meybe a couple of lightweight STA's from AGIR would do the trick which is what i have done , or alternatively a custom divers BP which i think works well without an STA.

Den

I have an OMS backplate and have no problems using a single tank without an STA. I use a couple of mushroom bolts to hold my wing to the backplate.

If you're going to be doing much travelling it might be better to get an aluminium backplate instead of stainless, it's about 2kg lighter.

I use the OMS travel wing for most of my single tank diving. I have had no problems simply using cam bands through the precut slots wth both OMS and DiveRite plates. I use a couple of cheap mushroom bolts which keep the wing nicely in place when the tank is off.

Hi John,

As you've mentioned the travel wing I assume that this is going to be for overseas rather than UK.

OMS travel wing or similar (30-32lb buoyancy) is a good size for singles and maybe a small pony/stage, and as has already been posted, an aly plate will save weight. A single tank adaptor does make the tank sit in a more stable fashion (you can get lightweight versions in aluminium) but is not necessary if you really want to keep weight to a minimum. A couple of bolts will do to keep everything tidy.

Likewise, you can save a small amount of weight on the harness by going for a 1 piece and then putting in a break on the left shoulder strap.

if you can, try out a few rigs before you buy.

Cheers, John
