You can get some mushroom nuts, you cut the stud to length and they fit thorugh the back plate and screw on to the stud, you will then need to carry a screwdriver to secure the back plate with this type of nut.

Or you cut the stud so it just protrudes through the back plate and use the derilin thumb wheels half way down this page.

Wings / Backplates / BCD's, Backplate accessories at divingniknaks 0121 707 5783. Frog, Dirzone, Agir Brokk Scuba Diving Gear

I use them on my cylinders and find them great.

Another vote for the thumbwheels just cut the studs down a bit have a nut threaded on though when you do it so it cleans the thread up after cutting

Heya,

I had this problem when i first got my CD TDB, you are ment to use these special nuts from CD

Though i'm tempted to try the derlin thumbwheel from nackers if someone can confirm they are ok for the CD backplate

Cheers,
Pete

Thumbs up cd wing

just fitted the thumb wheels top one is ok but the lower one still sticks in my back this may be possibly due to the fact that i am a 5 ft 6 skinny bar.....d!! and not got any meat on my back( front ,legs, arms, ect)and am going to give the mushrooms a go !

Really glad you posted back, I personally hate the mushroom nuts, they are a real faff, especially with freezing cold hands.
I was hoping the thumbwheels would work but wondered if they would be uncomfortable, they look quite deep and the CD plate has no channel to lose that depth in.

i use these now: rswww.com |  Nylon through hole star knob,M8x12mm, 210-2984

Had to enlarge the holes in the backplate a little, but they've been ok for 2+ years. . .

The other option is to make it easy on everybody & fit a CD quick release system Quality Diving Equipment by Custom Divers - Custom Divers Ltd then means one half is permanantely fixed to the wing/backplate using CD mushroom bolts ,& you can easilly split the wing from cylinders for filling etc as more & more LDS ,Stoney etc will not fill cylinders still attached to wings.
