and how is that different from the little string pull dumps???

I like them too, but you must remember that I don't lie flat in the water 'cos my neck always ends up hurting if I do.

I don't like the idea of stressing the one point in my wing that I really don't want to stress. Knowing my cack-handedness I'd rip the elbow out after a few dives.

I know, pulling on the bum dumb stresses it the same way, but I'd rather a gaping hole towards the bottom of my wing than at the top.

I feel exactly the same. It just feels wrong to pull on the hose.

Also I don't care about a bit of water getting into the wing. I can't believe it makes that much difference, and that's coming from someone who uses a piddly little 30lb Halcyon wing for single tank stuff.

Not much, but theres more stress usually put on the inflator pull dump than the string/kidney dump, plus the inflator dump relies on the long wire and a pin holding it to the inflator itself, Ive seen these come apart, usually with OW students who think thier trying to ring the church bells!

I disconnected mine years ago... long before DIR were even on Farleys Rusks and looking up "vagina" in their new dictionaries on the first day of term.

Problems I've had with them:

- the valve material tends to be shite and a bit flappy in some of them
- I once pulled the hose and had the entire hose come off
- I've reached across to sort something on the other d-ring, trapped the hose and dumped the air in my wing
- I've had the length of the LP hose stop me pulling on the corrugated hose enough because it can restrict how much "travel" you get. You're ascending, you need to dump air so waste a few seconds trying the pull dump... seems trivial but enough to make your ascent faaaaaaast
- I've had the corrugated hose tear
- I've had the valve decide to stick open without realising. Inflate wing (or so I thought), jump in, f***in' hell I'm on the bottom...
- I've had the valve open when I've inflated my wing whilst bobbing on the surface... Wing inflates, the attachment point is on the back of the wing so as it inflates it starts pulling away from you, the inflation valve got held in place in the loop of bungee I use for securing it so the valve gets pulled open.

I've never been sure whether I'm unlucky or just incompentant (this isn't a poll... ). As others have said, I don't like having a hole right at the top of the wing where I really don't want one.

Cheers,

Stuart

I, er, accidentally pulled myself off a few years ago whilst doing a buddy check, had to swap to a spare BCD to do the dive as it was a PITA replacing the hose on the dump. The attachment looked fine when I checked my gear before kitting up.

I replaced the pull dump with an elbow after that - if it had failed underwater I would definitely have lost all the lift from my BC for the rest of the dive.

Unfortunately I've an OMS wing so there's already a hole there for that top dump that no-one in human form can reach unless they have another 2 elbows surgically added.

Oooooo I could have a single bladder and 2 hoses. That would be the ultimate strokery.
