Top marks, never let a marketing opportunity slip. PADI, GUE, so similar. Read the link though, is something missing or has the fitness mantra slipped a bit. You know the run a marathon, skip for two hours and have the rmv of a hibernating doormouse. What happened did JJ suss that the unfit masses were a rich source of income?

Points 2 and 3 of required skills and drills. Although what it has to do with a wing escapes me.

    2. Must be able to swim at least 300 yards/275 meters in under fourteen minutes without stopping. This test should be conducted in a swimsuit and, where necessary, appropriate thermal protection.
    3. Must be able to swim a distance of at least 16 yards/15 meters on a breath hold

Here's the link again in case you missed it.

Don't know if they still do it but Apeks wings were made by Zeagle. The best wing I've ever owned was a Zeagle and I'm still using it after 12yrs.

Neither do customers. D-ring, techy black, brilliant... I'll get my single and pony on that and I'll be able to do anything...

The big problem with most of these non Halcyon wing / plate combinations (Frog, Apeks, Dive Rite etc) is that they don't finish the slots on the plates properly and they literally eat through the webbing in about a dozen dives. Crazy - it costs nothing to finish / bevel the edges surely?
    Bollocks

I bought my last Dive Rite plate in 1996 and it still has the original harness. The bolt holes have worn out before the webbing has.

I've got the Apeks harness and backplate, have to say I'm very pleased with it, the webbing maybe a bit on the stiff side, but it softens a bit after a few dives, the plate is well made with no burrs on the slots, I also like the slot for the bottom bolt on a twinset, so the bands dont have to be lined up exactly.

Have been looking at the wtx3 for my single set.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I guess I get my question priority wrong. I was more interested in a view of the quality of the wings. The fact it doesn't appear inmany shops DIR sections just made me curious more than anything. The wing doesn't need to be compliant for my missus, she isn't interested in DIR in the slightest, it just peeked my curiosity is all. Thanks for the help folks.
I reckon a WTX4, SS plate, OPH, Twin 300bar 7s and a pair of DS4/TX40s should do the trick. Relatively cheap way of getting onto a semi-decent rig I think.

That sounds like an excellent set up to me... I had a WTX4 wing until a couple of weeks ago when my kit got nicked Was planning on replacing it with exactly the same set up until I got a very good offer on a frog Midnight and I liked the idea of a donut shaped wing. However, I am still convinced that the WTX 4 is the best value twinset wing on the market.

I also had a WTX 3 which I used for my single set up, the Cnuts nicked that as well Again this is a great value bit of kit. The only issue with this is that it is a single layer of material (I.e does not have a separate bladder inside) This does make it quite vulnerable to puncturing, consequently I would be a little cautious using it in a wet suit without another sauce of bouncy.

Looked at a recent one the other day - 10 dives - cut half way through the shoulder webbing. Things aint what they used to be eh? lol
