Whilst I agree that the act in question was a particularly senseless and the perpetrators deserve to be made an example of, it would be better in this instance to address the causes of such behaviour rather than meet out "justice" after the event. I'm not sure that the prospect of a harsh punishment if caught acts as an effective deterrant - it just makes the guilty more determined to avoid detection. There are certain crimes though for which I think the punishment should completely prevent the chance of anyone re-offending.

In the case above, immigration has nothing to do with it as I'll wager that the perpetrators were white british males (with a Welsh accent).

Sorry Lou, but as it related specifically to caving I thought the most appropriate place for this would be in the cave diving forum. Those of us with a specific interest in caving don't really see the disappearance of the SW cave rescue ambulance as a 'general discussion' topic!

I can understand that, absolutely, but surely Darren's comment earlier had raised your awareness that it existed already elsewhere?

Anyway, it was only a lighthearted comment - and the as the discussion is underway elsewhere, perhaps you would have liked to join in there.

As for whether it is general discussion or not is a moot point for me - Ijust look at new posts..

Hi Lou, apologies, on re-reading my reply to yours just now was a bit 'heavy'. Not intended. And thanks for the heads up about the other thread... I've just been for another look.. can't make up my mind what that thread is really about although there is lots of it - loads of angst! Anyway, they got it back...

Yes - great news they got it back.

I do have to say I am intrigued by the circumstances in which it was fond though. A real mystery and whodunnit. It must have been taken for a specific purpose, and it seems like it was found before the "job" was done.

So, what possible use would a cave resuce ambulance be to anyone?
