What a strange post.

Do you mean you've had an accident and the other party has a side mounted rebreather in the car which is damaged?

Well I thought he was expecting compensation and might want to buy one or, alternatively, he'd been horrendously injured and wanted to sell one.....but there's obviously other alternatives.

If it's an insurance claim it'll probably contain grannys gold jewellery and be valued around 10k

Deny it all!! Wouldn't have though a side mounted breather was possible, well not without a lot of smoke and mirrors! If it was your fault, just take the hit, and if your kit then the price it took to make it up.

If it was yours, wasn't there a couple of VR3's involved too

Nothing. There are no commercially available sidemount rebreathers so what you'll have is a collection of plumbing parts from B&Q worth about a fiver.

Here's my take on what Hek is actually trying to communicate...

If you look at his past posting history (all three posts of it), you'll see that he clearly has an interest in UK cave diving so it's fairly safe to assume that the side mount rebreather may well belong to him. Reading between the lines, my guess is that Hek has been injured in a car accident and he's having doubts whether he'll be in a fit state to resume cave diving. If this is the case then it's safe to assume that he's looking to move on his side mount rebreather and is simply looking to guage the resell value of something which is difficult to judge due to its non-commercial origins. Just because it's knocked up using parts from B&Q doesn't mean it doesn't have value - a side mount rebreather is a classic example of something that's definately worth more than the sum of its parts! If you don't agree then there's a simple solution - pop along to B&Q and buy the parts to make your own. When you fail miserably, Hek's may still be available...

So Woz - I take it you'll be asking no more than a fiver for your sidemount rebreather if and when you sell it?

Between £1000-£2000 depending on model*. Woz got an exceptionally good deal.

* The lower end is for the manufacturing cost of a complete new D5. The upper end is for what someone was asking for a Joki on the CDG BBS.
