| Best idea I can offer is contact the CDG for help I think you underestimate them. Just dont waste their time and I am sure you will get the help you require. Personally, I asked one question of a massively experienced CDG member and I was offered hands on help despite the fact I said I was a total novice. ATB Mark

| The CDG is happy to take suitable trainees and using the CDG mentoring system train them in UK style cave diving. Get in touch with the local section (NS) and see if you can attend a few meetings to get to know the section, the red rose have members. Most CDG members are from a caving back ground. The training (if excepted ) is free other than the membership subs. Look at the CDG web site for contact information. Feel free to mail me with any further questions. Andrew.

| I believe Peter Devlin is in the RRCPC and a member of both the Northern and Welsh Sections of the CDG in addition to this board. You've already got more open water diving qualifications than most CDG members and with a strong caving background would probably welcomed into the Group with open arms. Of course if you only want to dive in nice warm clear caves then the CDG may not be for you and you might prefer a commercial course in Florida style gear abroad. You can do commercial courses in the UK too and whilst they might afford a fast track to learning the skills you need, you can probably save a lot of coin and apprentice yourself to a CDG member.

| Cold water not a problem, want to explore some of the systems previously beyond my experience, next question is the costs involved as I,m only kitted out for open water diving ![]() |

| Depends what you want to do. It can become a bottomless pit though - the more you do, the more gear you want, the bigger shed you need, the bigger car you need etc. CDG folk are pretty good at lending and swapping gear, though you will want to have your own fairly soon if you find it is your thing. I echo Duncan's comment, speak to Pete Devlin - really nice guy and in your caving club. I can't help much as I'm based in the South despite being a Derbyshire Section member. Good luck. |
