Was out walking yesterday and came across this interesting looking place.

Is the water always so clear? I thought all English cave dives started 3 miles underground and you had to swim through mud! There was even a big fish swimming round the pool.

I guess it is on private land (I asked a farmer if I could go have a look and he obligingly said it was ok, although not his land) So do you have to get permission to dive there? and what sort of depth does the system go to.

If this site was in Mexico there would be steps down and someone in a big hat charging $5 to park and use the kitting up bench.

No footprints in the sand so no one has been since it last rained!

Was that picture taken recently? I'm surprised as I thought there'd been a fair bit of rain.

It is technically on private property and there some fairly loose access arrangements in place. I believe ownership has recently changed though? It's probably my favourite cave to dive, in good vis it's as good as anything abroad. It varies from anything up to 6 or 7m vis (possibly more, I judge on good, bad or soup) down to zero depending on the weather. Similarly the water level changes by a fair bit as well. It goes a fair distance both up and downstream.

I've had 8m viz last May and the May before that in there. If you want good viz for Dales resurgence flopping, at least 10 days of not a drop of rain is required.

Judging by the line it has been dived before. Have a look in the CDG Northern Sump Index and see if it mentions any specific access arrangements.

Lovely - one of my fave caves in the dales also!! Had about 6m vis in there. The best bit? No other divers most of the time! You get the odd diver but not that often. The farmers are generally ok about access, some of them want a note in the windscreen saying cave diving group or similar.

Best I've ever seen the viz was last spring - 10 metres plus! It was one of those "Ahhh....so this is what it looks like" moments.

Shame it's p****ed it down ever since.
