Get your backside up to the Cave Diving Group AGM in Castleton next weekend (Village Hall). And join a caving club if you haven't already. People tend to find it easier to get into the group by actually getting to know cavers and divers, rather than just sending emails. There are cave divers in nearly all major caving clubs in the country. There will also be a gaggle of us at the Helwith Bridge in the Dales on Saturday night (this sat). I could do with a lift with some gear, but knowing nothing about you, as a total stranger on the net, I'd rather carry my gear myself. However, if you were to introduce yourself in person...

I've done it. Twice. It's a bit of a hike. The ironic thing is that there used to be a mining railway to the entrance. Sadly it's long gone.

If you do go to the Silica mines do not leave anything in your car when you park it, if its a hatch back or estate leave the cover open or the locals are likely to break in to see what you have left out of site.

the walk up the hill is not that bad I walked a twin set in.
