Whatever you choose, make sure:

- it's bright enough (50W halogen or equivalent)
- it will burn long enough with more than enough time in reserve (at least 3hr burn)
- using it isn't interfering with working with your hands

The battery size needed to meet the first two pretty much means an umbilical to meet no.3

I'll put Phill out of his misery, buy a Salvo. A UK800 is not going to be anywhere near adequate.

What style of diving (unified team, same ocean type diving or out right solo)?

What sort of conditions (clear water or shitty vis)?

What sort of duration do you need?

What's your budget?

The *best* torch out there today in terms of power is probably the Salvo 50W HiD. Would you want that in gin clear waters? Dunno - possibly over kill and only 4hrs burn time, so a 21W with more burn time might be better.

To put the above in perspective a 21W salvo is like using a sledge hammer to peel a bannana in the Mexico Caves.

10W HID is plenty. 50W Halogen is more than adiquate. 21W HID is a light saber and aking to using a Farari F355F1 with race clutch and paddle shift for the school run, but its still and epic torch and many people will salavate over it.

Also consider the LED torches. Not the light sabers like the HIDS but bomb proof bulbs and excellent burn times.

The Salvo LED or Solus 1250 would be my money no object choice. The 10W Halcyon Proteus 3 HID would be my budget choice
