No it isn't. A stroke does not simply refer to a non-DIR diver. A stroke is someone with an unsafe attitude who would be a liability in the water. It came from someone saying essentially don't go diving with muppets.

The UK equivalent term is of course "wanker". By all mean call someone a "wanker" and be proud to be British.

That's me then - I also learnt to dive using a Mares HUB. Only just converted to a Buddy BCD and Aqualung regs.
