Well if this is true then, given the term "stroke" has long been used by DIR divers to refer to Non-DIR divers, DIR divers are not only insulting the rest of the diving world suggesting they are the only ones who are "Doing it right" but also that other divers are unsafe and wankers

I would like to state, for the record, that I am not unsafe

I'm sure there is many a DIR diver who will argue this one and be offended themselves that someone, somewhere, is implying they're calling all other divers unsafe

Oh, and btw, I don't know any Americans who use the term "stroke" to mean masturbation. I have family in Colorado, Texas, Arizona, California (north and south), Oregon and New York. My sister, being a pilot, has travelled the US extensively and none of them have yet come up with a US equivalent for "Wanker" . A term which, once they learn it, they rather enjoy saying

Which is exactly why the DIR term caused such a furore when it was first coined, no such thing as bad publicity

You will not find it used in the UK, only amongst GUE trained divers when referring to other GUE trained trained divers who they are on good terms with.

Doubt it, because they all know the full history of it. It is not used by the UK GUE trained divers.
