Question I need advice from all you CCR guys!!!!

I have been informed by my LDS that there O2 and helium prices are about to be going up 25% next month.

I currenty dive OC and tend to do around 30-40 mix gas dives a year(most in the 40-70m range), i have been thinking about going CC for a while now, for the obvious reasons (gas costs etc) but the news of the price increase has brought my plans forward, its bad enough now at £50 for gas never mind £70-80!

my predicament is i dont really fancy waiting 11months for a inspo with vision, as delivery will be around peek season next year and i will have to get back to basic diving for a while so will miss out on next years gas dives. if i order a classic(2 months delivery) i can have all winter getting used to the unit and be ready for the next season diving.

So what would you do, order a classic and plum in my VR3 as 4 cell or stick it out and order a Inspo with the vision elec ?????? Is the vision really that much better?

any advice from current owners of either the classic or vision would be great!!

Cheers
Gareth

Save a fortune on laundry bills. Give your dirty shirts to Oxfam. They will wash and iron them and you can buy them back for fifty pence.

My advice is very simple. Buy a used classic inspiration and enjoy the benefits. Spend the rest of your cash on a decanting kit, your MOD1 (No one comment ) and a nice holiday somewhere warm.
You keep your gases at home in the garage and do what you want, when you want, where you want at a much reduced cost.

Thumbs up

I'd go along with DTW, seems like a logical approach to me.

I know where you are coming from, i have looked at used units but it seems there is not a lot about for under 3K, and i can get a new classic with large wing and ADV for £3870. if i am going to pay 3K for a used one and it may need a service, new cells etc it might end up false economy with not that much of a saving.

At least with a new unit i know where i am at, and have a warrenty to boot.

Recent prices paid;

2.5 yr old Classic with ADV, argon and new head/cells/service choice of wings/harnesses £2850.
2ish yr old classic with ADV, HUD and a sortment of extras £2700
5yr old With recent full service, no ADV £2500

I would say to the contrary.

The list goes on. Search and ye shall find. If you have the cash for new, go for it. If you want to save some cash, do some ground work.
Heres how;
Ask the guys here to forward you the weekly offerings off the closed Insipration list.
check eBay occasionally for Inspos, dont get carried away.
Check the "For Sale" section on YD.

If it takes you more than a month or so to get sorted the there is something wrong. I'm sure we all will help you along if you need help.

In case your interested, the price for a complete head service with electronics swap out (worst case scenario) is £376. This is what AP told me.

DO NOT just jump into buying a second hand inspy to save money it might well be false economy, then again it might be absolutely right for you.

You need to decide what you want out of a unit before coughing up thousands of pounds or you might well spend that much again getting it right.

There are loads of units out there, Classic Insp, Vision Insp, Classic kiss, Sport kiss, Meg, Prism, Optima, OMS (soon to be launched based on existing military model) some of those untis brand new are less than a second hand inspiration.

what is important to you - portability, CE marking, simplicity, large user base, bullet proof build quality?

Give us an indea then you can get a steer!

Yup. EXACTLY what DTW said. Buy a S/H Classic, there are loads of them around for under £3k (they've got 'em on e-Bay for peanuts!.....Ermm, no. Best not do the e-Bay thing). You get a perfectly good CCR and there are lots of homebuilders around who make all sort of handy bits that'll make it better still. Especially now that a YBOD has recently fallen into the hands of an inveterate fiddler

PS Got to get the plug in - you don't need a Vision HUD anyway, Uri's is miles better... http://www.underwaterexperiences.com/
