| Purple sofnolime Can someone please tell me why my sofnolime in my scrubber is sometimes purple, and other times just the normal colour when I change it. It all comes from the same drum. Craig |

What lime are you using? Is it the colour-changing sofnolime by per chance? Where you not told about the different types of lime on your course and the colour changing type? We covered this as part of my course with Gary Fox last year. The purple is an indication that the "scrubbing reaction" has occured, basically the colour change occurs during the reaction, and therefore you can visualise where the reaction front is up the stack, not particularly any good on the Inspo or Evo, but on the Meg you can see it nicely. We have a picture on Rebreatherworld of the lime shown in a Meg canister It is available to buy through Molecular Products. HTH Cheers Lou |

| Lou Yes I have heard of the colour change type but I wasn't aware I had that type. Its the 1-2.5mm granules. My point was Ive changed the scrubber about 5 times from this container and on two of those occations some of the granules had gone purple, on the other 3 they had remaned their normal colour. On all occations there was 3 to 4 hours use on the scrubber. Craig |

| Ian, it does indeed change back to white fairly quickly, less than a few days as I remember. I used to use it because Divex used to do it quite cheap (not any more).

| Ok I've a confession to make as a very last resort I did read what it said on the drum (i.e. instructions) and it is indeed of the colour change variety (white to violet). My next question as already been answered as to why sometimes it’s white and sometimes violet; it is possible that I changed the scrubber soon after use on the occations it was violet. It’s a shame really because I was becoming to think I was some sort of gas god who could choose whether or not to produce carbon dioxide. Oh well its not so bad being a mere mortal, thanks for your replies. Craig |
