Question Armadillo CCR Sidemount system

Has anyone bought one of these? I'm interested to know what the cost is delivered to the UK with duty paid.

I may be wrong, but it looks simple enough to make something up similar for a few quid.

The trouble would be finding a stong enough "board" to support the brackets and of course getting the SS brackets themselves. Most of the tail plates I've seen are only designed for storing SMB's, not supporting the weight of cylinders on land. I know the Armadillo manual states that you should only mount the cyls in water but that isn't realistic for UK sea use and I have seen others post that they mount on the boat ok.

Does the board have to be totally stiff, if not then a piece of conveyor belting maybe...easy to cut, very tough and cheap if not free from most factories that have replaced one. I made a backplate for an old BCD out of it, its nearly as supportive as s/s.

Might be worth a try, just need to find a source. I expect I could get suitable brackets from a yacht chandlers.

Hi ,

I tried a DIY youself sidemount kit a few months ago. Then I tried the armadillo kit. No comparison. Please have a look at Cedric Verdier, Technical & Recreational Diving Instructor Trainer. Articles
You'll find an article about the sidemount kit

Cheers

For the brackets I'd try B&Q look for some good strong door or cupboard handles they don't look much more then that it the picture.
