Which CCR Rebreather Question

Hi All,

Im interested in a rebreather, i've had a play with an Inpriration and a KISS before, but would like to hear some other input.

Im looking for something small and light that i can use for mostly recreational diving. I travel extensively as a photographer so travelling weight and good customer service are vital.

Im based in the UK (for now) and if someone knows of a rebreather instructor who is down to earth, knowledgeable and not the usual techhie d@&£head who can recite part numbers for diving equipment released in the last 20 years, it would be great!!

Thanks!

Simon

Vision is full of bugs and its a Sod to travel with. KISS is superb unit but not good if your mind is on photography and not on keeping your self alive and the Meg is way over priced and not as good as the hype for a unit which offers a state of the art head for 1998

Copis Meg? excellent but way over priced.

Good luck out there its a mine field

Have a serious and long look at the Revo. Its a very interesting unit in that its as simple as a KISS but it has the necessary HUD to keep you alive whilst taking pics for about the same cost as the KISS. Its also travel friendly and has an excellent economical scrubber design.

If i was getting a CCR today Id look at the Revo. If you reeeeeeeellllyyy want an ECCR then the Apex2 Meg and watch out for the dodgy solenoid.

For travel and photography I'd certainly consider the Revo2, the HUD is very useful plus you have manual addition for O2 & Dil so it beats the Kiss.

Almost all have been resolved (bugs are to be expected in new software). Software from my experience is pretty reliable.

If travel is a requirement, go for the Evolution.

Vision Inspo/Evo is just not trendy/fashionable (just a solid work horse), the Meg became the trendy one, although the REVO is the new trendy kid on the block!

All above can be done on a Meg.... plus APEKS 3 is on the way.

For how long? the Meg changes its electronics almost as often as Chasey changes his rig, seems like they are struggling to get it right.

The OP asked for recommendations, IMO this is fairly pointless as most first time CCR owners are fairly evangelical, this seems to come across most strongly from Meg owners

Thanks for the quick replies.... Shall i take it that no-one knows a 'normal' instructor

The Evo was my most likely target as i would imagine its pretty easy to get parts for in remote places, the electronics are an issue, but im not planning on getting one immediately, so theres lots of time to watch things develop.

I have several thousand dives with various still/video cameras, so im not going to focus too much on them and kill myself (touch wood). On open circuit i still look at my gauges once a dive-ish :sercet: Just dont tell my students!
