Question Bailout gas choices

Now i am sure this has been discussed before but here goes. Feel free to point me to existing threads as I couldn;t find any other real opinions.

I am wondering what other CCR divers use in their bailout stages ??

I have just got myself a pair of Ally 80s to replace/go alongside my Ally 7s. They are currently empty and I cannot decide what to fill them with. I will most likely stick with my 7s down to 50m, and then the 11s for deeper than 50m

One will most likely be filled with 50% so that is not so difficult. The problem comes with the deep bailout.

Do fill with something like 10/52 for the once or twice a year 100m dive, or fill with something a bit richer to cover me to 75/80m which will be much more frequent...? and then dump that for the in-frequent deeper ones

What does everyone else use ??

My game is to stick to HeliAir mix, that way I can have 16ish/something and then if I need a thiner mix decant from it and top it up and still be able to easily analyse the result with just an O2 analyser.

Downside is that you end up with some odd (non-standard) mixes, may not be ready to do a deeper dive than prepared for.

Plus-side is that you minimise throwing He away, and have a better bailout mix getting you shallower sooner.

Diving 10/52 all the time is simple in some aspects but a potential risk shallow.

YMMV.

18/45 and 50% down to 80m max then add a third tank AL40 14/50 on any dive where I am likley to be at 80 for most for the dive or in any way deeper.

10/52 is an OK dill but a prety crappy deco gas. If i was planning major penitration diving id haeve to reconsider bailing to 1.6pp02 but mostly i dont.

Watch out for Ali80s full of 18/45 they float like hell. I went for steel for the trimix and Ali80 for the Nitrox.

Thumbs up

I choose my bail out depending on the dive profile. It is never anything smaller than a 40 cu ft of air for dives <130 feet. I never rely on an onboard solution. Deeper/longer dives, usually involve a second 40 cu ft of 50% or 80%. Trimix dives involve carrying a deep bailout, usually a 63 cu ft of mix, and the rest based on the team strategy. We dive as a team of 3.

I run my box from the offboard, so I have a selection of cylinders. I use an Ali7 for 80/10, if it's deep or long I have an Ali 40 of 30/40 to take too.

The bottom gas mixes are suitable for the depths I do, so I have a 60m, 70m and an 80m cylinder. The mixes inside are designed to have a 20m END and a 1.4ppo at their selected max depth.

If I were to do a deeper dive I have some steel 12's I could fill for that particular dive.

Down to 70M: Ali 7L 18/36

Over 70m: Ali 80 15/50 (with a 1Kg weight cambanded to cylinder) good to 90m, 100m at a push.

Then some 50% (7L), O2 (5.6L)
