Seems oc bailout is not the minmum required kit. A chamber is looking favourable too. Good expedition planning . Bear in mind, this is only 30-50 m deeper than some of the dives you ccr guys take as the norm. Mind you, 40m dives are deadly too

I tell you what, do your 45min Bt @ 70 in low Viz/current etc etc, then flood your scrubber on purpose and throw in some CO2 for good measure (so you have to make it fully OC to avoid cheating) then come back and prove to me that your stratergy works.

If not better stick to the real range in which it would work.

That or prep the thing right in the 1st place that made you not be in that situation in the 1st place.

I have dived 45mins at 68m on OC and i did my normal deco on two steel 10's. I am 100% confident of making the surface on my 250bar 10 and 235 bar Ali80. If my elevated breathing rate is an issue I just go up faster. I might be a little bent or even a lot bent but I will be alive and bends are fixable in most cases.

If i have a buddy Ill have loads of gas for a relaxed deco

Same if i get the drop tank

Same if i can use the unit as a pure 02 breather

Same if i can use the unit to go semi closed

I feel the lad on two 7s is taking the piss but two 10s is doable.


This is planned on a 25 SAC which is 2.5X my normal 10 SAC for deco. The ascent may start out at 40RMV but it will settle down to 10-15 once i have put all the toys back in the pram so 25 is a sensible average IMHO.

I have a BOV so there is zero chance of my RMV hitting 40+ before I bail I go OC if my breathing rate goes greatly over anything i feel is not normal for the dive and the workload.

I know boys who have been unable to bailout because they were breathing too heavy on the loop and this has resulted in a ever increasing c02 induced RMV. With a decent BOV this is not an issue.

Ok way outside of my remit and maybe I'm being a little too simplistic as
an OC johnny, but isnt there bailout and bailout?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm reading here that because its nigh on
impossible to carry sufficient gas for OC bailout on deeper dives, the
rational is there isnt much point in carrying it at all.

But.........

Doesnt that make the assumption that a whole miriad of other scenarios
wont happen? Ok a bailout may not get you to the surface and deal with
an extended deco regime, but it might get you to the surface with at least
a chance of getting to the pot.

I can understand saying dont consider this to be a bailout in the OC sense
of carrying enough to do the whole job, but just as one final resort that at
least gives you a fighting chance.

Seems pretty daft in my OC mind to discount any option over the alternate.

Or I could just be talking poo.

No that thread was a poo free zone

It might be impossable to carry ALL your bailout but it is always possable to carry enough gas to get you to the next available gas source and there are ways of diving that can ensure you do.

By the way, you might be interested to know that Richie Stevenson's mouthpiece fell off on Carpathia last week, he inhaled a lot of water but is ok. A few years ago he was positioning himself as an alpinist for the dive comics. You get away with it until you don't.

Point being, bailout does not have to thought as just OC. I have plenty of bailout options it just does not involve a reg.

It would be good if people could honestly see what would really require a full OC bailout and not just make a load of what if's up.


Carrying redundant 02 is more important to me than carrying a bottle of BT mix and 50%. As i can see much more posibilitys of it coming in handy.
