| Closed Circuit Rebreathers: Discuss What does the future hold for rebreathers? in the Rebreathers - General Information forums: If you are looking at a rebreather for shallow depths ( less than 40M) then dont worry about bailout. Why, ... |

| Magic. I love the stupid internet debates at times. So now a CCR is comparable to a plane? Aviatian has type approval for planes, regulated maintenance regimes, regulated testing enforced pilot retraining etc etc. I look forward to the day you rock up with a 747 strapped to your back JB, hog rigged I trust By the way, theres something that wasnt mentioned, maybe the future holds more regulation?

| My brother has a Cesna like Martin Parker's! Neither use parachutes. Like a plane, a CCR is hard taskmaster and there are opportunities for fatal mistakes. However, planes fall on people below. Better to be down here wishing you were up there, than up there wishing you were down here - aeroplanes. Better to be up here wishing you were down there, than down there wishing you were up here - rebreathers.

| Great. Does owning a plane with no parachutes stop the DSV from being comletely f***ed when it ends up full of lime? And while we're at it, when you're puking your guts out, where does the vomit go if you're still on the loop? I'm sure the day will come when a totally failsafe rebreather is available that doesn't need bailout but we're a loooooong way away from it today. The Cis Lunar went through phases of being two RB's in one to a single supposedly super-reliable rebreather but it still managed to kill a Nobel prize-winning scientist.

Proper checks and obaying scrubber rules. If you have a flood on the loop its most likely to be at start of dive. Therefore dive to 40M and inboard 3 litre will get you up and out on OC

I washed one out for a guy on a boat once. I wondered what the funny signals he was giving me on the 6m stop were but they all ended in <ok>. He later said you had to blow a bit to get it through the mushroom valves... although he didn't look like he wanted to tell jokes at the time. He dived next day. Even I was impressed. |

| You can make plans for WHEN things go wrong but the only really effective plan is a properly drawn up Last Will and Testement and no debts left for you loved ones to pay. Or you can take action so that nothing CAN go wrong. Nigel has now got his helicopter pilot's license. (He designed the Vision software.) The philosophy behind flying a helicopter is to make sure nothing can go wrong while you are using it! I recommend it to all rebreather divers.

Ignorance is bliss I have had a total loop flood and so has Janos. Both happened right at the end of the dive. Janos was on his ascent. C02 can be due to a scrubber failure or a wob issue. It can also result from a damaged flapper valve in the mouthpiece. So have you ever coughed under water? If so you will understand that all the checks in the world aren't going to help if you damage a mushroom valve by with a short 120mph burst of air. In response to JBs post. I have dived Alpinist but I do try and avoid it. Fortunately when i did have a problem i had bailout handy. If i wasn't carrying bailout Id be dead now and not planing a day out with the kids Monday. Oh, and Janos would be dead too which no doubt would annoy Pipper. ATB Mark

No-one ever mentions the hundreds (thousands?) of people who are still alive because of bailout. I don't plan on crashing my car, why should I have insurance, seatbelts or an airbag?
