| Personally, Inspo was the way to go for any sort of paid work. It just made life a lot easier. I don't think you can dive a non CE unit when in at at work situation. You could just use OC for commerical stuff, but it's not ideal. Insurance probably would pay out if you were certed for the unit for you, but it probably wouldn't pay out for third party if you killed or injured someone else. Maybe. I have an Inspo for sale, unmodified as per CE mark if you want to have a look. See here: FS: Inspiration Classic Might save you losing thousands in depreciation on a new unit, secondhand market doesn't move much over time. Digs. |

| You need to have all of your life support kit with a CE mark to fit in with the diver at work regulations which means at the moment an Inspiration, an Ourobourous or a Sentinal. A couple of other rebreather manufacturers are at an advanced stage in their CE testing but neither will be ready until at least the end of the year AFAIK. So as an Instructor even if I am qualified on a different type of unit I can only use my Inspo or as mentioned open circuit (which is a bit of a ball ache) if I want to remain legal, insured and totally covered under the HSE (which I do). Hopefully this has helped. Cheers Baloo

| thanks guys Thanks for the info. much appreciated...so a little knowledge leads to more questions! I hear people talking about doing mod 1 in Thailand, i have looked into Tech diving phuket. I did my DM out in Thailand so i know the country well. so apart from the obvious. I am looking at about £475 including rental of an inspo.. over here its about £500 for mod 1?, but do you have to own your own unit? so the plan would be to come back and buy a second hand unit for media work. I am assuming i can work after mod1, cos media divers rarely go below 40m. cheers Lee edit...Ps, if you do MOD1 on an inspo...how does it work for learning other units? mod1 again for that? or crossover courses? The instructor I used for my BSAC Inspiration Rebreather course charges £500 if you use your own unit or £600 to use one of his. I recently upgraded to a Inspiration Vision and cant seem to find any details about a crossover course so cant help there sorry. |
