Anyone been to Sharm lately with their rebreather?

    Hi Guys,

Anyone been to sharm lately and can recommend an airline with the best xs baggage prices/allowance?
Everyone seems to have hiked their xs prices. (Probably due to oil!!)

    Sharm

I took mine in March and May. Had 35Kg total allowance on both trips with XL but I believe they have reduced their allowance to 30Kg now. 15Kg +10Kg in the hold and 5kg hand luggage.

They never spotted the extra 12kg that I was wearing with different bits and pieces

I did hear that Thomson Fly had a package that you could buy for sports/diving kit at a more reasonable price than paying standard excess baggage. Don't know if that is true though.

Condor is 50 kilo but you will have to drive to Germany, I know it sounds to much hassle but it can work out a lot cheaper. A £100 saving just for taking your own lime. The flights are generally cheaper as well.

Thomsonfly is £15 each way for 15kgs sports equipment... plus your normal luggage, 20kgs I think, and 5kgs walk on...

Thomson have hiked it to £60 for each extra 10 kilo. As well as charging flat price on each bag you take also.

BA are excellent for divers, you get an extra 23Kg for free. I took my Meg to Sharm back in April and I had 43Kg is total which I paid an extra £15 for but I can't remember who I flew with.... My Mac is playing silly buggers but I'll dig out the email and let you know.

    Condor getting expensive

    Hi Simon,

Condor are now also starting to count divers pennies. The days of 30kg xs baggage as a diver are over in November. Will cost 25€ each way and flights are a joke. Just been sorting my leave out found a oneway flight the cheapest to Dusseldorf for 290€ munich was 397€ all for a one way.

Leave your boxes at home just bring your lid I'll sort you out with the rest and I won't be Dick Turpin.

    Greetings
    Marc

Yes... XL have changed their allowance, but Mr Snork rang up the airline and did book extra baggage, which bought us an extra 10 each, and it was about £30 is I think... this brought the total up to 8o kilos.... I was on open circuit trimix, so weighed in at about 29 kilos ( mind you I had hardly any clothes), and then rebreatherwise, he had to stuff bits and bobs in my luggage to share out the load as well as we could.... XL did so the "show us your dive card" and you get 10 kilos, but they were strict about excess baggage, and on the way back, from Sharm, people were getting charged in the queue infront of us.......

The BA GB airways option is also out now (23Kg free) as they have been taken over by easyjet. Need to look again at what these guys are doing but regardless of buying excess, I think you can't have more than 50Kg full stop.

Last out in April, booked an extra 10kg, think it was XL, can't remember how much it was

We checked in as a group (about 10) and the total baggage alowance was split between the 10 of us, there were a few OC divers so this helped, I still think we were over but they ignored it, apart from one guy who went over the 32KG per case had to unpack in the cue at check in Thankfully not me......
