Poseidon Discovery - any further info?

Has anyone got any more information than the official blurb on the soon to come (possibly here) Poseidon Discovery unit?

Any views on suitability for recreational divers such as myself?

(I did a search on the site and was surprised to find very little on it).

Hi, The guys to talk to are RAID RAID | Rebreather Association of International Divers , who are the new training agency set up to teach these (and other CCR) units as recreational units. I know they will be offering courses this summer on this particular unit.

They say, in the promotion material: "for sports diving limits of 40m". I wondered if that is just a recommendation based on general qualifications or some form of warranty on the unit? (I appreciate this is a Nitrox only unit).

There are interesting videos on the Poseidon site, if you have not seen them.

From looking at them at the dive show, and our old dive shop joining Raid with the idea of becoming a training centre, if it all "kicked off", I think it has some major drawbacks. Im a Poseidon man, Love em, But..if im going to spend 5 grand on a CCR, going for a brand new untested, limited to 40m bit of kit just doesn't seem the way forward. We were under the impression it was going to be cheaper than the average cost of alternative CCR units so would be a good way forward for rec divers.
So the benefits we liked, weight. you can put the tanks in your hold bag, and the unit weighs 7kg and fits into an overhead compartment. So good for travel. downside, uses Pre-Packed Scrubbers, and unless they release a kit for filling your own, how many outlets are going to have these?
last I heard they set the date back a few times due to electronic teething problems.
some of these details may have changed since our shop closed down.

They did a demo for a club here, theres already a tmx upgrade to the SW (they said back in january), Im not sure what the status is but the Poseidon people had done multiple tmx dives on their one, even though they said "thats not what its for"...

I wouldnt buy one but it seemed functionally ok...value for money? Not IMO...

I'm sure I've read somewhere that its only limited to 40m because thats what they have software for.... they are already working on Trimix software and it will go deeper with no unit mods as soon as the software is on and working.
    Are we having fun yet....?

Not without manual add valves for Dil and O2 I won't. It's designed so that you cannot fly it manually. It just bails you out. Ridiculous.

I've also seen one in the "flesh" and it's too lightweight for me. It feels flimsy. Not easily compatible with travel on aircraft and cack-handed kit bitches if you ask me.
