Commie/HSE Diver Required - Overhead Environment

Just had a call from a mate, Taff, who runs a company ranging from salvage work to traditional commie work.

He's looking for a diver to work in over-head conditions, 3 days next week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday - ranging from early [06.00 hrs] starts to over-night work), in Glasgow, £10 per hour. Can pick up if you're in the North West, or better still in or around the Glasgow area.

The job entails climbing down through the maintenance hatch in the pool floor, working in the swimming pool (3 or 4 metres deep), under hydraulic floors, inspecting cable damage, wear and tear on the hydraulic floors and 'spotting' for the guys who'll be doing actual mechanical work - so no need for any actual hands-on 'spanner monkey' work, just keeping eyes on the guys and looking for and then giving a verbal report back topside on any damage you see.

Bearing in mind this is in an overhead environment, I'm guessing this will require an HSE ticket. Happy to be corrected.

£10 an hour!! Is that the norm for the industry if it is thats not a good rate of pay.

The rate probably reflects what the job entails - looking for damge, not mending it. All Taff wanted was a 'competent' diver, but once he told me that it would involve working in an overhead environment, I suggested it would probably mean the requirement for an HSE ticket.

I've just been quoted £45 per hour plus VAT by a plumber! Why does anyone bother to get a degree these days?

i can't do it, but i would still like to know if an HSE ticket would be needed for this type of work ?? or if there is a special 'overheard environment' diving ticket (ie. cave) that could be applied

what about dedicated insurance or would the employer have insurance to cover that ??

I think,
if you are paid to dive then you have to comply with the requirements of DWR1997, so a HSE medical will be required possibly HSE scuba ticket.
may be wrong Andy the Commie would probably be able to tell you.

Sounds more like confined spaces working to me. I take it the pools are empty during maintenance?

Why would they need a diver in an empty swimming pool?
