Sat System

Just back from a tour of a Commerical Saturation Diving Ship, some bloody cool gear on there, didnt quite realise how small and warm the bells where tho!!, pitty the poor stand-by diver. And the bloody bottle banks are f**king huge, must be 500 or 600 litre each cylinder, sweet. The gas reclaim system was cool too and the system they have for "air" lock gas reclaim (yes I know its not air in there) really cool just couldnt imagine been stuck in a hot chamber with all the fart for a few weeks!!

During my days "in the pot" we used "purafil" atop the "soda-sorb" in the scrubbers to take care of the "farts"...

...Never seemed an issue while inside ( the pressure tended to deaden the sense of smell somewhat, & what we could smell we lived with for the sake of cash...).

However, during my first sat. "tend" ( a.k.a. "nursemaiding" ), I realized the futility of purafil when, after a 30 day sat., I was waiting patiently at the door for the seal to release & the "rats" to emerge; with a barely audible "hiss" the hatchway door swung inward & the most foul of smells came churning forth from inside & had us running in all directions in search of breathable air!

Just another romantic aspect of the deepsea!
