Some advice

I'm currently debating doing the HSE scuba course -- not because I'm planning to make a living out of it, but because it would keep the paperwork squared away, and it looks like a fairly solid bit of training. The fact that the course might pay for itself sometime over the next decade is a bonus. But that's not really the question.

Could someone tell me a little about the whole Diving Contractor malarky? I recall one of the diving journalists (I think it may have been John Bantin) writing about how he was required to both be an HSE qualified diver, and a registered Diving Contractor in order to do his job as a freelancer.

One of the scenarios that are on my mind is to do with amateur photography. Having looked into it, it would appear that as a sports diver, I could only legally sell any photos to the sport diving press (a special exemption). In order to sell elsewhere I would need to be an HSE diver. I may also need to be a Diving Contractor in order to effectively employ myself to to take the photos.

So, could someone tell me what I'm waffling about?

That implies that an amateur with no HSE quals, who managed to take an outstanding photo, would not be permitted to market said photo in any way they choose. Surely that is not the case?

Would quite like to know myself.

As far as I can tell, that's exactly the case.

can i suggest that you read Mark Davis's post http://www.yorkshire-divers.co.uk/fo...5&postcount=33 and then give that HSE Dive Inspector a ring . ask him to put in writing what you have asked and his reply..

Also have a PM chat with JB.......... because as a Media Diver you NEED TO BE HSE SCUBA at the very least.

To be a Diving contractor and accreditted member of the ADC , i would ask them .http://adc-uk.info

PM me off board if you want any more e:mail address's of info from the other side ( Commerical diving )
