| Thank You I'm not a diver but my son is halfway through a commie diving course in the west of Scotland. Apparently he tells me after this course he wants to go to Aberdeen to get his offshore ticket, I suppose you guys will know what he means I found this forum to try to understand some of the stuff he tells me about his course though most of it is too complicated for this old fart. Anyway, I'd just like to say thanks cos I've enjoyed some of the stories here and cringed at others. As it's near Xmas can anyone recommend any good videos/dvd's about commercial divers that he might find interesting, and where to find them. I would'nt have a clue where to start looking. Thanks again |

| Welcome to YD! Have a look at Aquapress. They've got loads of books including some on Commercial diving, and some DVDs too. I couldn't recommend anything specific though. |

| A few more links: Diver Bookshop Underwater Bookshop Simply Scuba Not commercial diving, but I would recommend The Last Dive and Shadow Divers, 2 excellent books. They should be on one of the links, but if not you can get them from Amazon. |

He then he goes onto the part 1 wetbell I think. He said summat about having to do a xx amount of dives before he can go for the saturation diving course...jeez I could have bought a brand new car for the amount you guys spend on the courses. He's doing all these courses at Dunoon in the divers academy. |

I'm currently doing my Part IV Scuba and have done quite a lot of research into the commercial diving world. Once he has done the Surface Supply and Surface Supply Top-Up this is as far he can progress until he has logged a minimum of 50 dives totalling at least 50 hours inwater time. The Professional Diving Academy only train up to Surface Supply Top-Up level, he would then probably go to 'The Underwater Centre' at Fort William or go abroad to do his Sat course. Does he have any relevant topside skills that companies would be looking for? and also how old is he? Anyway good luck to him in his career, here are a few links that may be of interest to you. http://www.professionaldivingacademy.com http://www.theunderwatercentre.co.uk/index.asp http://www.commercialdivingwiki.com/index.php/Main_Page http://www.longsteath.com http://www.hse.gov.uk/diving/information.htm |
