Cant answer for all the Comex dives just HydraV. Of the six divers the oldest was 40 years old (TeamA Jean Marcel-Auda GISMER French Navy) and the youngest 31(TeamB. Langouet. Comex) The dive was from May3 to June8 during 1985 in two separate teams, some 21 years ago now. That would make them around 61 and 52 today. Comex Diving Bucksburn House Aberdeen is gone but the Comex Group Boulevard des Oceans. Marseille still going strong. We are still using Comex chambers and gear. Mr Berk Also as an ex comercial diver I should be able to name you in about six contracts or jobs. just be specific.(look in your log book LOL ) Your call. |

| A Berk It would appear that youre recruitment policy is crap, thank god you don't work in human resources! Have you become bored with the Lonstreath site? I am sure the Commercial diving schools are churning out enough baby divers? The cut of age for doing a Sat course was 40 and your'e supposed to have some years experience before doing the course so sensibly that puts guys at about 36-37 (that is for those seeking Offshore work) Perhaps links to commercial training schools would calm your ramblings? Any one can find out the day rates of Offshore personel from the Lonstreath web site ( now there's some bitching on that forum) Alas, at the start of your thread you say that YOU hired the new guy. So how does a baby diver get the bosses number? Shouldn't he go through personel department? I could go on but I think enough has been said! If anybody is interested in a career in commercial diving, Research it well!!!ask as many questions as pos to satisfy yourself. |

| By-heck TUP, who rattled your little cott? I have not mentioned anything about the cut-off age for doing a sat course all that was asked was the cut-off for starting in the business - and that's 35-37-ish. You are obviously an expert in the workings of offshore diving companies seeing as you know so much about personnel departments and the like - so pray, tell us how many years you have worked in this industry? I obviously don't know how the system works 'cos I just bye-pass personnel by saying; "this guys coming on my job" and he does - funny how that works aint it? And would someone like to tell me why so many flourescent-finned folk think it's so bad to give some encouragement to those seeking a rewarding career? This is the 'commie' corner is it not, or have I stumbled in to the 'drip like f**k about something you know f**k-all about' site? |

| Conor, I'm getting the drift of it this posting stuff now - didn't mean to upset anyone with the 'fin thing' - unsensitive of me - I realise not everyone can afford them. FYI. I have just checked-out previous by TUP... must have had a Gerbil molested by a diver at sometime or other - got a real proplem with commie stuff eh? Failed the course or something? |

most of the rec and tec divers on here are curious about the industry, (regardless of the colour of our fins

| I think most of the wreck/tech divers on here would feel right at home in offshore diving, the job really is a profession when you get to the deep-end and it has a science behind it that never ceases to fascinate me... You do get some bum deals though - like the one where we had to stay 2 weeks on full pay in some back-woods hole called Rio (de Janeiro something-or-other) - who'd want to go through that again? |
| ||||
| Lol, it can be hard life. I was once asked by a customer to go to Brazil to be on call for a project they were running, 2 weeks all expense, on the beach with a mobile that most likely wouldn't ring. I couldn't go in the end due to a commitment in Germany so I delegated it. The team member duely got all the shots in preparation of his paid vacation, except the customer decided that if it wasn't me they wouldn't bother, so he had to stay at home.....life can be cruel

| I've enjoyed this thread too if i had the b*ll*x to quit what i'm doing now i'd be there like a shot but it'd be a tough decision to make that gamble if you have bills to pay etc. good luck to anyone who gives it a go
