And Mark- you'll think I'm really sad but in the 4th year at school we had a careers office and I used to wander in there and look through the possible careers and always gravitated towards diver too. However I used to work in the offshore industry and it's proper hard work being an offshore commie. A couple of the lads did a dive in the Trent and came up with: 2 shopping trolleys 10 bicycles 1 SLR camera 7 jazz mags, one of which was "Swingers Weekly"

| As Mark Twain once said...... "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

Life's too short to have regrets.

| When I was 11 in secondary schol we had a scuba club, I couldnt swim, so they wouldnt let me join. I really really wanted to dive though. Never did really learn to swim properly (ok with a reg or snorkel though). Fast forward to when I hit 46 and my Mum died, I learnt to dive. I dont for one moment regret I never did it at school, but I absolutely rejoice the fact I did it years later. Go for it, who knows wheer it will take you, maybe somewhere bad, maybe somewhere good, but you'll at least be on the journey and not standing waiting for the journey to start. Matt |

| Go for it! It is better to go through life regretting the things you did, than the things you didn't do. I wouldn't mind doing that myself, except... 1. too old 2. can't afford the course 3. even harder for women to find the work than men.

When I told my careers officer I wanted to be a diver he tried to point me in the direction of being a Naval officer. I didn't want to do that - I wanted to be a Navy Diver. They just didn't get it!

| When I was a wee lad (well about 8 or 9) I used to get my dad's old ally cylinder out (it was a really old one with a neck shaped like a wine bottle and a non-balanced teeny weeny valve) and connect up his Namron Snark (still have that in my Cupboard of Diving Horrors) and go and dive the bath. What worries me now is that Mini-Woz is so comfortable in scuba kit. She took to it like a fish to, well, water. After 5 mins on her first go she was swimming round whipping her reg out and poking her tongue out at the instructors in the deep end then going up and down and up and down and when quizzed about it, said that she was "pretending to be a dolphin". Brought tears to my eyes. We're going to try and get her through all the BSAC stuff as soon as she can manage it and get her teaching in the pool by 16. The look on the 18 yr old student's faces as they are being taught by someone 2 yrs their junior will be something to giggle about.
