| I recently turned down a job warehousing in Iraq. There's always jobs, it's just what the perks look like. Lots and lots of money, however there is always the real and present danger of dying every day. I don't know anyone back from Iraq who would go back for almost any amount of money, so I'm unlikely to go there. Now diving jobs... How much is the guy earning, and where? If you want to pay for my courses I will happily come and work for you at a decent rate. Trouble is, you're requiring a lot of people to take a risk and then you choose who you fancy at the end of it. Most of us choose not to take that risk with cash. Thinking about taking a risk, but it's a lot of money, and the job has to pay back the cost of the training. Which it doesn't sound like it will in a lot of cases. Digs. |

| You're absolutely correct Digger, it is a gamble, not everyone will make the grade but those that do can carve a very profitable career. |

| So what do you class as a good wage or more the piont what sort of wage is he getting? 80k - 90k per year?

True but I've made an assumption that you'll only be able to work roughly 6 months of the year and that the current exchange rate is unlikely to change. Obviously with experience you'd be able to get higher rates of pay but I think most people in their 30s would be looking at a fairly sizeable paycut and if they have kids as well then it'd probably be impossible. It's possible when you're not working you could do something else to make ends meet but it looks like significant risks both financially and physically. |

| Who's the berk Foggy? Show me an offshore operation that works 5 days per week - you know nowt about the subject so don't begin trying to run down a business that is beyond you mate. And let's get it straight... if you're on Mick Jaggers fcuking wages good luck to you, I'm not trying to convert everyone to pro diving - only those that are sitting on the fence REALLY thinking about it. If you just want to impress everyone with a 'loads-of-money' attitude why not start a p*ssing contest to see who on this site earns the most? That aint what this is about... I'm helping people get a foothold in something that they have a passion for - not only giving complete new guys a start I also give air divers their first sat. Every year an old diver leaves the business and leaves a void - we need new guys and we need to train them for a demanding profession. When they get established they wouldn't get out of bed for 100k sterling - they are sort-after professionals. Not everyone is good enough to reach that standard I know, I regularly dive with recreational scuba divers and 1 in 200 or even 300 MAY (?) be what we are looking for - the rest (intructors included) I would gladly pay to stay away from the professional arena. I know just how poor the in-water standards are in sport diving - I see it every week I'm onshore - if I could I'd ban every coral-breaking, pufferfish poking, wreck vandalising tw*t from the water!!!
