| North Sea Divers go on strike BBC NEWS | Scotland | North East/N Isles | North Sea divers vote for strike Take it that the pay isn't as good as I have been led to believe then? |

| What does a diver earn in the North Sea? anyone know?

| i was working with some comercial divers 2 years ago on a barge off norh wales and they were getting 120 a day, they were only a couple of years into comercial diving though if that makes any difference. chris |

| You guys thrive on rumors and speculation don't you. Like Simon TW said; Do any of you know what a North Sea diver earns? No... so why don't you engage brains before typing? The North Sea divers are looking to get a 50% increase - one which is long overdue - no one said they were on crap money anyway. I don't work in the North Sea though I may go back when the new pay scale comes into effect as supervisory personnel will be on around 1,200 GBP. Air divers will get around 700 and sat divers 1,400-ish. In Asia, Middle East, Africa etc air divers are on around $300+ though this is going up also. Sat divers outside the North Sea are on an average of $300 + 18 per hour = $732 and I would expect that to go past the $1,000 mark next year. If you work it right this can be tax exempt. Chris L's friends on a barge 2 years back do not come into the equation - these are 'civil enginering' divers NOT offshore oil. Wolf - if you think the RN can match any of these rates then thats the place for you then - you have had more PM's to and from me than anyone but all that is about to dry-up now. I'm comfortable knowing that I have told the true facts about the present situation in offshore diving - and that is - IF anyone has asperations to become a professional offshore diver, now is the best time since the 70's to do it - fact. Whether it's financially worth it for you? Well that's your call... if you are in six-figure numbers and think we are w*nkers cos we're in a paltry three-figures - good for you. I have helped several new-comers get a start in offshore diving - its a business that has given me an excellent lifestyle - now is my chance to introduce others to it. It's there if you want it... if not - no sweat. So, as of now there'll be no more posts and no more PM's answered - sorry if you have a serious question as you've missed out. Safe diving to all... |

It is so much of a shame to see you use such a word as Liar Mr.Coastie as i have tracked this forum and as a member of the professional diving community i can say that what Mr.Berk has been saying is very, very true statement. And then i want to ask you why? do youwish to no what company is paying big money? Do you have qualify to be employed by my company? i dont think so. So i think you lost some body what wanted to be helpful. Such is life, no? |

| Mr Burke can i ask where in my comments i seem to have upset you, Yes i have pm'ed you alot as i am very interested in what you have to offer and say. I was on my live in week last week which is loads of very hard graft with very little sleep and i had real thoughts of jacking it in to go commie and then after i finished my hell week i see that little write up and i think to myself " is there a god" but at no time do i doubt your statements. In fact i enjoy you defense against the uniformed who doubt you. You got me wrong and that pi##es me off, but i'll have to live with that. safe surfacing Wolf
