I finally got to see a copy of the programme and it was nice to see six old mates that I havent crossed paths with for years - one of them as long ago as '84. Good to see they're still in the business too, all top hands so they should be.

Fantastic programme.

I loved the bit in the opening titles, where the narrator said something like "Yes, that was a whale in the background"

4 weeks at a time in a chamber with 4 other blokes breathing helium and eating curry 'cause you can't taste anything else?

6-hour shifts at 200m+?

bl***y h*ll!!!

I watched this when it was first on, then the others in the series, about the guys that repair electricity cables up high, the ones who paint the Forth Bridge and the Lighthouse repair people with the people who maintain the buoys around the coast.

The diving one was by far the best of the series, IMHO. However someone who I work with (who thinks we're all mad for loving diving) was bowled over with the team work and camradarie. She said she's never seen people work so well together, the surface people, the people in the chamber and everyone else!

That's how I feel about diving. Everyone works together. As a rule!

Yeah... the cameraderie is priceless. Terry Duffy, the superintendent on that vessel was someone I helped train way back in '77 and worked with him in Brasil in '84... if we met now a monster pish-up would ensue. I'm back on my own vessel now after 6 weeks at home and although I miss my wife and home like mad our 'crack' out here is brilliant. Each Sunday we get a crew change helicopter, 7 or 8 go off and 7 or 8 arrive and we catch-up on whats new in each others lives. While we're diving we just crack jokes and take the pish and the work goes easier.

It was 180m Paul, for a 6 hour lock-out, then back to the chamber at around 160m-ish for 16 hours off, then back to work again. We have 12 guys in the system on here and with 2 diving bells we can keep a diver on the job for 24 hours - round the clock day and night - its cost effective for the client.
